“She was no longer wrestling with the grief, but could sit down with it as a lasting companion and make it a sharer in her thoughts.”
George Eliot
Ashley Brathwaite, like many young women, had a strong sense of self and a strategic plan for the trajectory of her life. One day, at 19 years old, she was faced with a dilemma that was completely unplanned. It led to her having an abortion. Ashley started to struggle with depression and PTSD from her traumatic experience. In spite of this, Ashley was determined to push forward. She soon realized that in order to heal and move on from this trauma, she needed help. She enrolled in a Post Abortion Recovery group where she learned to navigate life with the trauma instead of burying and masking the hurt. She was finally able to forgive herself and accept God’s forgiveness. Then she made the discovery that she was not alone – there was a whole community of women that were just like her. Soon Ashley realized that her pain, her journey, her story were not to be kept and dealt with in secret. She was to become a testimony and help other women in need.
We all have a story – how will you write yours?
